Nocturnes: Black & White Photographs by Carl Sanders Socolow ’77

College Photographer Carl Socolow will exhibit his latest collection of black and white photographs: images captured at night in cities around the world. Socolow states, ”They are garlands of stories strung together from glimpses and glances of everyday life, of things as they are. The pictures are isolated moments, that are character sketches, they are specific instants entwined and held suspended.”

The exhibition will be open through November 19.

Cuban born poet, filmmaker and journalist, Victor Casaus will be exhibiting his images in Gallery 204, 2nd floor of Weiss Center For The Arts.  Casaus will be on campus for Semana Poetica X, a week long international poetry festival. The exhibition will run through November 11.

The provocative work and heroic life of 17th-century female artist, Artemisia Gentileschi.  Question and answer session by filmmaker Ellen Weissbrod after the film.

Within our discourse we often utilize imagery as our means of conveying and illustrating points and meanings. In this quick forty minute session, we’ll review ARTstor and go over:

• setting-up an account
• searching and retrieving
• uploading to personal collections
• saving individual images to your desktop
• Exporting image groups to PowerPoint
• ARTstor’s mobile application
• ARTstor’s Offline Image Viewer–used for presentations

Masterworks Renaissance, Baroque, and Early Modern Prints and Drawings from the Darlene K. Morris Collection

This exhibition presents a collection of old master and modern prints and drawings, representing many of the leading artists from the Renaissance to the mid-twentieth century. It features works by artists such as Albrecht Altdorfer, Thomas Hart Benton, Pierre Bonnard, Mary Cassatt, Albrecht Dürer, Fransisco de Goys, Reginald Marsh, Henri Matisse, Jean-François Millet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Rembrandt van Rijn, James McNeill Whistler and Grant Wood.

Picasso and the Circus: Fin-de-Siècle and the Suite de Saltimbanques

Picasso and the circus examines a pivotel moment in Picasso’s early career, between his Blue and Rose periods, c.1900-1905. It is divided into two separate but interrelated componants. The Circus in Fin-de-Siècle Paris considers the subject of the circus and the role of such entertainment spectacles in the art of the time. The second component, the Suite de Saltimbanques, features Picasso’s most important early etchings, which focus on acrobats in the Paris circus.

The exhibition is a collaboratove project wioth works from the Jane Voorhees Zimmerli Art Museum and Fundacíon Pablo Ruiz/Museo Casa Nata
