The Jane L. and Robert H. Weiner Lecture in the Fine Arts Presents world-renowned stained glass artist Judith Schaechter

Judith Schaechter has works in the permanent collections of the Renwick Gallery (Washington, D.C.), the Victoria and Albert Museum (London) and the Museum of Art and Design (New York); she also is a recipient of Guggenheim, Pew and National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) fellowships. Schaechter will speak about her work, the importance of skill in art and the relationship between art and craft.

Senior studio art majors exhibit works in a variety of mediums, including sculpture, drawing, painting, photography and ceramics. The artists will be available during the opening reception to discuss their work, which will culminate in an April exhibition at The Trout Gallery. Light refreshment will be served. All are welcome. Opening Reception: “The Ghosts of Our Meat

The Ghosts of Our Meat presents more than forty paintings, drawings, and prints by artist and activist Sue Coe that address issues relating to animal rights, the meatpacking industry, and ethics of meat consumption. The exhibition runs until February 8th, 2014. All are welcome to attend. Contact Stephanie to learn more.

Arts Award Ceremony

The ceremony will include an introduction by Associate Professor Elizabeth Lee, followed by an interview with the artist, led by Northwestern University’s Stephen Eisenman, and the awards ceremony, presided by President Nancy A. Graffiti Collaboration Project

Artist and Professor of Studio Art at Penn State Harrisburg, Paul Manlove, will be painting the public art wall with student collaborators. Behind the Goodyear Building in front of the Goodyear Gallery. All are welcome to attend.

Dickinson responded to the mural with an article, that included commentary from students and faculty, besides a slideshow and video. Check it out!

Recent Faculty Accolades

Ward Davenny’s summer exhibition, Clouds, Smoke and Vapors: The Art of Ward Davenny, was highlighted by WITF’s NPR site. Along with a review of the show is an audio interview, in which Davenny discusses his love of the atmosphere and how that translates into his work.

April 16 | Reception and Gallery Talk: Common Contexts

Artists: Rena Leinberger and Juanli Carrion.

This exhibition showcases works created collaboratively by public-project and installation artists Rena Leinberger and Juanli Carrion during a month long residency at Dickinson (March 18-April 21). It is not a traditional exhibition. The Goodyear Gallery functions as a laboratory and incubator for conceptual installations and ongoing conversation about art in public space, and the work created on site may remain long after the artists have concluded their residency

April 18 | Event: Common Contexts

This event marks the close of the artist’s five-week artist residency at Dickinson.  During this period they worked closely with students to make collaborative visual responses that sought out a Common Context between the participants, the college and larger Carlisle community.  Supporting documentation and art objects are on display in the Goodyear Gallery through May 3rd.  This event is free and open to the general public.
